Summer lovin.....well at least we're trying to.....

It’s begun and we’ve survived so far….Marks started his new job and we’re starting a routine slowly…. In all honesty we both found the first day a bit harder then first thought as really we’re never apart, but after a day we where both so busy that the week flew by. Of course it wouldn’t be life with out a bit of drama and of course a small dishwasher fire was there to spice things up….haha. (all is fine and dishwasher is now in working order) Thank goodness for my Father-in-law who’s a phone call away and drops everything to come to my rescue! It’ll take a few weeks to get use to our new routine, but it’ll be beyond worth it! I’m so excited that our child care need once I go back to work will be very minimal and Laken will get some extra Grandma time on the days we happen to need a sitter. With some of the other moms in our play groups heading back to work already the anxiety has started to set in, but with not having the stress of finding child care has sure made it a lot easier.

I’ve added a few photos as we’ve been trying to enjoy the nice weather when it’s here….We sure cannot wait for summer to really arrive and we should be able to get in some good camping this year!!! Laken is motoring around like crazy and although he can crawl normal…would much rather “army crawl”. He’s into everything and is now picking up on what we’re saying, asking him and is very set in what he wants…I even got the eye roll a few times.. He is just amazing and we cannot wait to enjoy the summer with him! Till next post! xox

Helping Dad work in the garage, the best thing about the walker is with the cement lip onto the drive way it stops Laken from being able to leave the garage!

Sunglasses and Hat Check ready to supervise!

I see how this is cute now...but oh how I can see how much trouble this is going to be in a few years....

Here it goes....

Here we go with both feet………as I mentioned in our first post, big changes are happening in our house! Good changes, exciting changes, but scary just the same…Mark has been giving an Amazing job opportunity! Which would entail him only having to work 15 days a month and we’d get him home for the other 15!! It also includes many other benefits for our family including a great retirement plan and full benefits of a union! They have given him the opportunity to choose between furthering education and higher management positions…the sky’s the limit!!!

The current company Mark has been working for, for the last eight years has been amazing to us and this last week has been bitter sweet, as a lot of Marks fellow co workers have become a part of our family and it’s sad to leave something you’ve known for so long. The opportunities that have been presented with this new job though, are just to good to pass up for our family. We are sooooo excited to have the opportunity where, Mark can go on field trips, help out with school when Laken gets older and will be home enough to help with which ever sports or activities Laken may have!! Mark also can’t wait to take Laken skiing on his days off with Grandpa and I can't wait for camping trips and family outings!! So as we say goodbye to a big chapter in our life, we say hello to one that we know will bring great things to our family!

Shoe Laces Untied~

Shoe Laces Untied~ Catchy don’t you think….haha.. I wish there was some brilliant metaphor as to why I chose this as our blogs name but really it’s not that deep….. I chose the name for a few reasons one being that I love the song “today” by Josh Raiden (you should check it out) and it starts out ~shoelaces untied ,you can dry your eyes, perfect shadows alive, behind us, this is the day I make you mine~ now the meaning of the song has no relation to our title. I just like what shoelaces united suggests….when I think of them ……and thought it would be a perfect title for our family’s little blog…..When I picture a pair of shoes with laces untied, I think of ones childhood…. the care free summer days, fresh cut grass, mud puddles and the lack of responsibility and of course getting in trouble for not untying my shoes…slipping them on and off and being scolded for breaking the backs…..It also brings to mind how in kindergarten I was one of the last to figure out how to tie my shoe’s and how I so wanted the “prize”…. (I can’t even remember what the prize was) I do remember the sense of defeat when the darn rabbit wouldn’t pop out of the hole properly, and the excitement along with the pride I felt when the stupid rabbit finally cooperated…it was monumental at the age of five!

It’s how we want Laken’s childhood to be, carefree with the only worry being how to get the rabbit to cooperate…..not full of responsibility and worry. Mark and I talk all the time about how we’re going to do things, how Laken is going to be raised and the endless opportunities we’re going to supply to him with the message that the sky’s the limit, and as long as he‘s happy he‘s succeeded…but we want him to always keep in mind the simple things, like a pair of shoe’s that are untied and how much fun they can be….So here we go with our shoe laces untied one foot in front of the other.......

Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day!

In honour of Mothers Day I want to first wish my mom a Happy Mother’s Day as well as all the amazing Women in my life who have been “moms” to me! Thank you for letting me borrow you when I needed to, for being a huge part in not only the women I’ve become but the mother I’ve become as well! I’ve been lucky enough to have many motherly figures in my life and am so thankful to each and everyone of you! To all the new mom’s in my life, who are celebrating their 1st Mother’s Day as well, Thank you for your unbelievable support, humour, talks and pots of coffee as we all embark on this journey together! I am so thankful to have each one of you in my, and my family’s life! Happy Mothers Day!

Today I get to celebrate my first “official” Mothers day with the two most amazing men I know! Spoiled rotten with flowers, gifts, breakfast, cards, and the opportunity to sleep in…..but of course that didn’t happen….Since becoming a mom the ability to sleep in has seemed to disappear, I just can’t stand to be with out that little man! Being a mom is truly the best job in the world and I’m lucky enough to have it! I knew being a mom was going to be great, but this Amazing I could have never in my wildest dreams comprehended. I am in awe everyday, not only is it unbelievable I brought this tiny life into the world but how perfect he is. The open mouthed drool covered kisses, snuggles, smiles awake and sleeping. His infectious laugh, bright eyes, sense of unconditional love, curiosity, as well as his ability to learn and grow are just a few of the things that make being a mom so Amazing.
Mothers Day these past few years quite honestly was a day I dreaded, wished I could sleep through or skip all together. It’s the only day I’ve ever felt that way about, but I found after loosing my mom it was a hard one. Harder then the date in september which we lost her, birthdays or Christmas’s. It didn’t matter where you turned there was another reminder for me that my mom isn’t here. This year I didn’t dread it as much it’s more bitter sweet. Bitter because of oh how much I wish she was here to share the day with me, to be able to cuddle Laken and oh how her face would have lit up when she held him. Oh and of course her laugh, it was infectious, she would have laughed so much at my little man and his mischievous smile. It’s also sweet though, because these last few months Laken has shown me how much joy a child can bring into your life and what an Amazing job it is to be a mother. To know I was able to give that to my mom gives me a sense of peace. I know she’s around and we took her pink tulips yesterday, laid them on her grave and wished her a very Happy Mothers Day! Mothers Day has taken on a whole new meaning now though with having a little man of my own and I cannot wait for the many more mothers days yet to come!

I’ve posted of some pictures of just a few of the Amazing mom’s I know and Hope everyone has a wonderful Mothers Day!

Xoxo

Moments Captured ~

~ It really is hard to think our little man has been out in this world almost as long and he was in my belly…Sometimes I just wish we could pause time, just for a little bit because the last 8 ½ months have literally flown by…. Last weekend my sister Tammy took some photos of us. With a little persuasion, bribing, kicking and screaming, I was able to get Mark to agree to have his photo taken yet again! Haha…. Never the less he was a good sport and absolutely loves the photos. Here are just a few of the shots and please check out the rest of the photo’s at ~ http://www.tammythomsenphotography.ca/clients/Laken/index2.php

First Blog~

I thought I’d start a blog after seeing a friends! It's such a great way to stay in touch, show you what we’ve been up to and how much Laken is growing. It truly seems like just last week we found out we where expecting and just yesterday bringing our little man home and now….almost nine months later, it’s crazy how much has changed!
We are now crawling, running in our walker and into Everything!! Mark and I are truly loving every moment of being parents and sometimes wonder what we ever did with out Laken. He amazes us everyday and the love we have for him is nothing like we ever thought we where capable of feeling…We both truly wish everyone was as lucky and happy as we are because we’re truly blessed!
To catch you up on what we’ve been up to we’ll start from the beginning!
January~ Started off on a sad note as I had to say goodbye to an Amazing Uncle who I’ll dearly miss as will my whole family. My Uncle Jim has a lot to do with who I am today, many summers and holidays where spent riding the Grey Hound bus to spend time with Uncle Jim and Aunty Leona! I am so thankful we where able to visit them in September and again in December, as well as for the beautiful memories my family and I have. The end of January was filled with relief as I had my last and finale surgery on my Leg. It was to remove the rod that ran inside my tibia from top to bottom. It’s been a long six years and we are so happy to be able to put it all behind us.

February-March~ Was busy between Swimming lessons, Rhyme time, Play dates, Baby Group. February also marked the month that Laken got his first tooth and there has been no slowing down since! I also started Babysitting two Boys ages 6 and 10 so they keep Laken and I busy as well! Mark celebrated his birthday on the 14th of March another year into the books and a pretty productive one at that!

April~ Has been Busy as well seems to be the only way we do things around here! Laken had an Echocardiogram done which I’m sure was more stressful on Mark and I then on Laken. The appointment was at the hospital and Laken did have to be sedated, but from the techs perspective everything looks fine and there where no holes or leaks that she came across. We wont have the results from the Cardiologist until the end of May. Easter was spent, at the Community Easter egg Hunt and meeting the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny made a stop at our house and of course Grandma and Grandpa Cesar’s too bringing treats and gifts. Before we new it April seemed to disappear!

May~ So far May has been Full of Surprises, opportunities and lots of productivity! Laken started crawling this month, has popped two more teeth (making six total) and is running in his walker following his Dad everywhere! So starts the Adventures of a mobile child! We’ve already (and it’s only been three days) Broke out the baby gates, child locks, plugs and moved everything so let the exploring begin! We have a lot of changes happening in our house and you’ll have to stay tuned for all the details!
Hope this Blog finds you well and you enjoy watching our little family grow, technology is just amazing! Just because there may be busy schedules, miles or an ocean between us doesn’t mean we have to miss out on anything!

Love Always till we post again!
